My cousin Tania and I are driving to California from Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario. She lives there, more or less. And I’m tagging along for moral support / half the driving.
These are the highlights of Day One: There was a sign that almost said Narnia. Then blah-blah-blah and then Chicago.
Sarnia should just change its name. (Sarnia, Ontario)
to the USA. “Pure Michigan” (Michigan, DUH)
and after a lot of blah through Michigan and a particularly meh jaunt through Gary, Indiana, we see the Chicago skyline. let the record show I was not the person driving for this photo (Chicago, IL)
I was told this building is the city’s effort to make a non-penis shaped building. Locals colloquially refer to it as the “Vagina Building” due to its lady-like shape. Alas I looked it up; it turns out it’s not a vaj or a feminist skyline-shout-out but a mere happy coincidence. O well. (Chicago, IL)
that famous Chicago sign reflected in the window of the ABC broadcasting studio (Chicago, IL)
my new bff, Jackson. My cousin’s dog and nervous travelling companion. (Chicago, IL)
My knowledge of American geography leads me to believe that in the following days the drive will first plummet into the depths of boring and then shoot up into a sublime wonderland of white knuckle turns and steep gradients. I await.
